Ad Inventory
What is ad inventory?
Ad inventory is the total amount of ad space a publisher has available for advertisers to buy at any given time. In online and mobile advertising, publishers include but are not limited to:
- Mobile Web: Online versions of websites such as The New York Times, Wired, or TechCrunch
- In-App: Gaming, lifestyle, communication, or utility apps that display ads, such as the social media app SnapChat, the game Candy Crush Saga, the plant identification app Planta, or the language learning app Duolingo
- CTV: Connected TV streaming media devices such as ROKU, Apple TV, and gaming consoles that support streaming content
- OTT: Over-the-top TV, which includes most streaming media apps that deliver streaming media on a CTV device, such as Hulu, HBO Max, YouTube, Netflix, and similar
Different types of ad inventory support different types of creative ad formats. For example:
- Mobile inventory: banner, rewarded video, offerwall, and interstitial ads
- CTV inventory: video, banner, pause screen in preroll, in-stream, and post-stream positions
Ad inventory may be sold directly by a publisher to an advertiser, or through a network, exchange, or other intermediary.
